![]() Most of the presented races in the story mode were just a bit bland. What we didn’t like was the lack of commitment to a single-player story. The in-game songs are very well selected and keep you excited in between the races. The audio experience is something special as well. The car movements and hectic moments all look perfectly fluid, even on a PC that is not state of the art. The game features a vast array of bright colors and fancy light scenes. In terms of graphics, Hot Wheels looks solid as well. The ingame currency called “Gold Coins” can only be obtained by winning races. In this game, you do not pay real money for your cars. While you may hear your microtransaction alarm going off already, you are mistaken. While new cars can be bought from a rotating roster of cars, you can also purchase loot box-esque cases in order to test your luck. If you fumble on one move, you may find yourself off of the track and in need of a respawn. In order to win, you have to be smart and quick with your hands. On an array of unique tracks, the game lets you loose against a field of equally mental opponents. The gameplay is what you would expect: fast, action-packed racing against the AI, your friends or other players online. In Hot Wheels Unleashed, you race, collect, drift and defeat scary spiders to obtain all the fan-favorite cars. While this may not be much like their usual work, the results speak for themselves. They are the developer of the MotoGP franchise and are very well known amongst the community. The most exciting action racer in a long time comes courtesy of Milestone. With Hot Wheels Unleashed, you can turn your fantasy world inside out. So, here is our Hot Wheels Unleashed review.ĭid you have Hot Wheels when you were younger, or maybe you still have them now? Aren’t they the definition of imagination unbound? Many of us will remember how we sat down and made all the most incredible cars race against each other endlessly. We here at OverTake got the chance to test out the action-packed racer beforehand. It's so much fun.Hot Wheels Unleashed will be released on 30 September. More than once was I scrolling to the left to get to my favorited cars only to overshoot and land in the "this is what you'd have if you got the batman DLC" zone of "my" car collection but also all the cars you *could* own if only you got the DLCs. your "Collection" tab features all the cars you own. the main menu has a big "DOWNLOADABLE CONTENT" button with an always-on bright orange notification dot you often see AI driving DLC cars, which is fine on its own, until you see that the monster trucks skip certain level hazards outright I'm pretty sure the liveries are the only customizations that you can get without coins Same goes for a lot of the room customization options. many quick-play maps are locked behind coins, and the easiest way to get lots of coins is to get one of the DLCs with the aforementioned areas. The missions in those areas also award 1000 coins (2 blind boxes worth) each, as opposed to the base game missions, which award 30-60 coins each the campaign map has very large areas locked off behind DLC, but at first it appears as if you can go there. I wouldn't even worry about it much if it wasn't constantly throwing it in the player's face: ![]() The game has *so much* DLC for a full-priced AAA title that it's insulting. I think on some days I spent more time having fun making liveries and checking out what other people made than I spent actually racing - and I love the racing The general feel of the gameplay is immensely satisfying The cars simultaneously feel *insanely* fast and like you're racing a metal toy (a very good thing considering that's what you're supposed to be doing). The driving model is amazing - it's a perfect blend of Forza and Rocket League.
